Solution Offer

A Solution Offer is a (generic) product or service that can be advertised in the Marketplace and the CSIS and thus gives Solution Providers the possibility to promote their products and services. A Solution Offer can apply to one or more (Economic) Sectors and EU-GL step/modules.

Solution Offers can consist of different Climate Services (advice, software) or represent a distinct Climate Service on their own. The screening tool part of the CSIS is an example of a Solution Offer. Another example would be a service for creating tailored Data Packages.

Additionally, Solution Offers also represent physical products and services like novel reflective materials, CO2-absorbant paint, climate-change-aware construction services, etc. Interestingly, such a physical Solution Offer could be used as Adaptation Option.

Digital Heavy Rain Hazard Maps Germany

Heavy rainfall is an extreme weather event during which particularly high amounts of precipitation occur within a short period of time during sudden and intensive precipitation. In a few minutes or hours, as much rain can fall as normally in a month. Heavy rainfall usually occurs in limited areas and is caused by convective air movements that are difficult to predict, especially in the warm summer months. Climate researchers expect such heavy rainfall events to increase, because the warmer the air mass, the more moisture it can absorb.

Urban climate modelling including the assessment of adaptation options

High resolution urban climate modelling of the past, current and future climate is essential to understand the effect of urbanization and climate change on the urban climate and it enables the identification of hot areas in a city. Knowing the location of “hot spots” helps to implement immediate mitigation measures, like shadings, in the right places.

Pluvial flooding modelling

The consequences of a cloudburst situation on urban flooding is modelled, and a mapping is made of inundation depths and flow velocities. The modelling is made for present conditions as well as for a range of scenarios including a variety of adaptation measures (for example potential green areas).

Essential Climate Variables (ECV) and impact indicators based on temperature and other climatic variables together with air pollutant concentrations for a selected city in Euripe.This information will bring more consistent and useful data to different sectors operating in urban areas, e.g. related to infrastructure and health. Modelling can be performed at 1 km hourly resolution. Note also that ozone and aerosols are part of the atmospheric ECVs, as defined by GCOS.

OLD Climate information for European cities
